How to Plan a Week of Meals
A simple method for building a realistic seven-day meal plan without overbuying ingredients.
Choose meals with overlapping ingredients
Pick a few meals that reuse practical staples so one shopping trip can cover several recipes. Rice, pasta, potatoes, eggs, onions and tomatoes can move between different dishes without making every meal feel the same.
Balance fast meals and leftovers
Keep some short recipes for busy days and include at least one dish that can provide leftovers. For example, Chicken Fried Rice, Creamy Potato Soup or Black Bean Chilli can fit different points in a week.
Plan the next use for leftovers
Leftover cooked rice can become another skillet meal, while cooked potatoes can be crisped, mashed or added to soup. Decide the next use before the food goes into the fridge so it is less likely to be forgotten.
